The Jacobite Express
Train/car route
Enjoy the stunning scenery of lochs, mountains and beaches while learning about one of the most significant and enduring political causes in Scottish history: the Jacobite uprising.

You can travel by:
· The Jacobite steam train – only return tickets, atmospheric but can be unreliable
· The regular train – (1h 24 mins) - from Fort William to Mallaig, the same route as the steam train, but cheaper
· Car along the train route – allows to stop by at places suggested by the audio
· Bicycle – to avoid heavy traffic during the summer months use the old road that runs roughly parallel the train lines and take the Camusnagaul ferry to use the A861 along the shores of Loch Eil

· Bonnie Prince Charlie, the hero of the 1745 uprising
· the greatest engineering spectacles of Scotland: the Neptune staircase
